Introduction

The electrical power network is the backbone of any industry and they demand a reliable and efficient power supply. To meet the growing energy needs of our client, we’ve undertaken a significant electrical infrastructure expansion project. This ambitious endeavor involved the installation of six new high-voltage feeder pillars, interconnected by over 560 meters of underground cable runs.

Why Upgrade the Electrical Infrastructure?

The haulage industry, with its heavy machinery and round-the-clock operations, requires substantial electrical power. The existing infrastructure, while functional, was facing limitations in terms of capacity and reliability. To address these challenges, we aimed to:

  • Enhance Power Supply Reliability: Reduce the risk of power outages and disruptions, ensuring uninterrupted operations.
  • Increase Electrical Capacity: Accommodate the increasing power demand from heavy-duty equipment and future expansion plans.
  • Improve Power Quality: Maintain stable voltage levels and minimize fluctuations, optimizing equipment performance.

Project Overview

To achieve these objectives, our team meticulously planned and executed the following key steps:

  1. Site Preparation: Carefully selecting and preparing the sites for the six new feeder pillars in partnership with civil contractors, ensuring optimal placement and minimal disruption to the haulage company’s operations.
  2. Cable Installation: Laying over half a kilometre of high-voltage underground cables to connect the new pillars to the existing network. This involved careful trenching, cable laying, and jointing to ensure a robust and reliable connection.
  3. Pillar Erection: Installing the six new feeder pillars, each designed to handle significant electrical loads.
  4. Electrical Connections: Connecting the new pillars to the existing network, ensuring seamless integration and optimal power distribution.
  5. Testing and Commissioning: Rigorously testing the entire system to verify its functionality and safety before energization.
